In the U20 category, the titles went to Thea Brown in the heptathlon and Salvador García Santos in the decathlon.
The Antonio Domínguez Stadium in Playa de Las Américas hosted the 14th edition of the Arona – Tenerife International Combined Events Meeting, a now well-established fixture in the World Athletics circuit, which once again positioned the municipality of Arona at the forefront of international sports.
In the sports field, the weekend’s standout performances came from French athlete Antoine Ferranti, who won the decathlon with an outstanding score of 8221 points, and Swedish athlete Lovisa Karlsson, who shone in the heptathlon with 6061 points. Both demonstrated exceptional competitiveness, surpassing a strong field of elite athletes from over twenty countries.
The meeting began on Friday with the official technical session, where athletes, coaches, and judges finalized preparations in a highly charged atmosphere ahead of the weekend’s competition. From the first events on Saturday, the audience enjoyed an intense opening day full of emotion, effort, and talent.
On Sunday, the competition maintained a high level of intensity across the track. Events such as pole vault, javelin, and the 800 and 1500 meters tested the participants’ endurance, rounding out two days where athletics took center stage.
The men’s podium was completed by Antoine Ferranti (France, 8221 points), Vilem Strasky (Czech Republic, 7972 points), and Malik Diakite (Germany, 7889 points). In the women’s category, Lovisa Karlsson (Sweden, 6061 points), Erin Marsh (USA, 6039 points), and Lexie Keller (USA, 6026 points) took the top spots. All delivered memorable performances on a track that continues to establish itself as a European benchmark for combined events and winter training for elite athletes and clubs.
The new generations also stood out. In the U20 women’s heptathlon, the title went to Thea Brown (UK, 5426 points), followed by Lara Cruz (Spain, 4908 points) and Vega Rubio (Spain, 4604 points).
In the U20 men’s decathlon, Salvador García Santos (Spain, 7317 points) claimed victory, accompanied on the podium by Hugo Senent Herrero (Spain, 6618 points) as runner-up and Ángel De La Torre Sánchez (Spain, 6355 points) in third place.
Several athletes’ performances at the meeting earned them the opportunity to participate in international competitions throughout 2025, with the World Championships in Tokyo, the U23 European Championships in Norway, and the U20 European Championships in Finland being their next major events after Arona.
Organized by the Arona City Council through its Sports Department and the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, the event ran smoothly and was marked by flawless technical and human execution, thanks to the commitment of the organizing team and more than fifty dedicated volunteers.
Arona’s mayor, Fátima Lemes, presented the trophies for this year’s edition, accompanied by the Sports Councillor, Luis Sierra, and the director of Hospiten, Miguel Ángel Salanova.
In her speech, the mayor highlighted “the value of this kind of event not only for the level of competition but also for its impact on the economy, tourism, and the municipality’s international profile, as well as its role in inspiring both senior and young local athletes.”
Departing from the traditional format of past editions, this year’s meeting, for the second consecutive year, emphasized a stronger integration between sport and territory, showcasing Arona’s commitment to sports tourism, sustainability, and organizational excellence.
With this 14th edition, the Arona – Tenerife Meeting not only consolidates its status in the international combined events circuit but once again positions itself as one of the premier gatherings where sport, hospitality, and the spirit of a community come together in perfect harmony.
