The competition will take place on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, at the Antonio Domínguez Stadium in Playa de Las Américas.
In the emblematic setting of the Golden Mile in Playa de Las Américas, the Hard Rock Café Tenerife hosted the official presentation of the 2025 Arona – Tenerife International Combined Events Meeting this Tuesday. This international-level competition, organized by the Arona City Council through its Municipal Sports Board and the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, will be held on June 21 and 22 at the Antonio Domínguez Stadium.
Consolidated as one of the most prominent combined events competitions in the international athletics calendar, this event strengthens the municipality’s institutional commitment to elite sports, once again placing Arona at the epicenter of global athletics.
The presentation was attended by the Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes Reverón; the Sports Councillor of the Tenerife Island Council, Yolanda Moliné; Arona’s Sports Councillor, Luis Sierra; the Tourism Councillor, Naím Yánez; and the Director of Hospiten, Miguel Ángel Salanova. All of them highlighted the importance of the event both in the sports arena and in terms of its tourism and economic impact.
Now in its 14th edition, the Meeting is part of the international calendar of the World Athletics Combined Events Tour in its highest category, Gold. This makes it the only competition of its kind held in Spain and one of the most prestigious globally. This status reinforces Arona’s position as a key destination for elite sports.
However, the event’s impact goes far beyond sports. It has become a valuable international showcase for the municipality, with significant exposure in major source markets for tourism to Tenerife, such as Germany, France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The arrival of athletes and international delegations who choose Arona for both competition and training generates direct economic benefits for the hotel, restaurant, retail, and service sectors, while projecting a strong image of Arona as a modern, active, healthy destination fully prepared to host international events.
In 2024 alone, Arona’s sports facilities hosted over 35,000 training sessions by international athletes, confirming the municipality’s strategic role as a training and preparation center for national, European, and world championships. This continuous flow of athletes is a clear example of sustainable sports tourism with high added value.
The Mayor of Arona, Fátima Lemes Reverón, emphasized the importance of the event: “These combined events place Arona at the top of the sports scene and serve as a key reference for our local clubs. Boys and girls from our municipality get the chance to watch elite athletes at home—an inspiration and boost for their development. It’s a strong commitment to high-level sport and a further demonstration that Arona is synonymous with excellence and international reach.”
Likewise, the Sports Councillor of the Tenerife Island Council, Yolanda Moliné, noted: “This is not just a top-level sporting competition with major national and international athletes, but also an excellent opportunity to showcase Tenerife’s ability to host major sporting events year-round.”
She also pointed out that this competition, unique in its category in Spain, “brings elite sports closer to the public and helps stimulate the local economy while positioning the island as an attractive destination for sports tourism.”
During the presentation, Arona’s Sports Councillor, Luis Sierra, stated: “The Meeting is much more than a competition. It is a municipal project that unites sport, external promotion, and economic development. It is the result of a clear commitment by the City Council to make Arona a benchmark in organizing high-level events.”
In the same vein, Tourism Councillor Naím Yánez added: “This event turns Arona into an international showcase that goes beyond sports, projecting our image as a modern, healthy, and dynamic destination. Sports tourism is a key part of our strategy, and the impact of this competition in markets like Germany or the UK confirms this. We will continue to support events that bring added value to the municipality.”
This year’s event will feature some of the best athletes in the disciplines of decathlon and heptathlon. Confirmed decathlon competitors include Jorge Ureña (Spain), European Indoor Champion and one of Spain’s top athletes with 8,381 points; Vilem Strasky (Czech Republic), World University Champion and 5th in the World Indoor Championships; and Malik Diakite (Germany), who achieved 8,051 points and won the 2024 edition of the Meeting.
In heptathlon, the lineup includes Paulina Ligarska (Poland), 5th at the European Indoor Championships; Thea Brown (United Kingdom), European U18 runner-up; and Elisa Pineau (France), winner of the 2024 Meeting.
Through its Sports Board, Arona City Council reaffirms its commitment to a development model that links sport with the local economy, responsible tourism, and social well-being, convinced that such initiatives create opportunities, foster social cohesion, and project the image of a modern, dynamic municipality on the international stage.
